We did it!
As of today, I have two in school! The house is sooooooooooo quiet. WFH just got easier.

Re: Infant slapping
I think verbal notification is a good start: "looks like you went potty and need a change. I'm going to bring you take change your diaper in just a minute." I would hold my kids hands/arms and let them know, "I don't like being hit. I'm not going to let you hit me. I'll let your hands...

Re: Kid Martial arts
Hey, thanks for this! My son got distracted and asked to do soccer which is much more available here so we'll let him try that. I'm certain we'll be back to martial arts before too long though

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here!
Welcome Alex! I try to be pretty quick on removed posts from legit accounts but I crushed a finger Friday and have been in the hospital since so haven't done anything on Reddit . Painted nails are fun. I used to paint mine when I was white water raft guiding. I'm getting discharged soon and saw ther...

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here!
Whats your overall goal for the blog, any desire for monetization? Honestly, I just want a bigger community here because I prefer not to go to Reddit any more for my dad related interwebbing. And, as mentioned, I used to write frequently as it helps me process things. I stopped for a long time and ...

Welcome, B!
I've started blogging too, along with this forum. Only just started. I think it's more for a minor outlet as I used to write frequently but haven't in years.

Hot days
Any ideas for kids on hot days? Not like 95F hot, but 105F+ hot. We have a small pool that heats to about 90F when it's that hot out but it helps a little. That's maybe 1-2 hours of play time for the kids then it's pretty much right back in the house. Either that or a splash pad at a park. At 5 and ...

Re: Boundless energy
That's a tough age for me because they have tons of energy but limited attention span/focus. Burning energy is as much about mental stimulation as it is physical exhaustion. I had a dad friend who would really encourage his kid with things like 'races'. You know, "run to the fence and back and ...

Kid Martial arts
Wondering if anyone has a martial art they prefer for their kids. I boxed for years but don't really want to get them into it. They did Karate when they were 4 and 6, respectively but I think they were a little too young and wanted to hit more things. I worked on teaching them that we only use karat...

Sun Shirts
With school aged kids, my 'kid gear' is diminishing quite a bit but the UPF sun shirts are SO much better than lathering a kid up in sunscreen. I still get their faces/necks, legs/feet, and hands/wrists but no more entire torso sun cream application. I don't have any particular recommendations other...

Re: 4th of July
I loathed the fourth when my kids were that little. Seems like I'd just get them down and fireworks would be blasting off everywhere.

4th of July
For US dads, what're you doing for 4th of July next week? Wife is working but I'll be off so hoping to take the kids out onto the river then maybe make some pizza or burgers or something tasty but simple. No fireworks for us, although I think I still have a pack of those snappers you throw at the gr...

Whitewater rafting
Hoping to take my kids on their first whitewater rafting trip of the season tomorrow, provide flows are low enough. The river is dam controlled but snowmelt has been so great releases have been way bigger than I would take them on. Last weekend things were 'normal' for where we go so I'm hoping this...

Re: Night 2 at home
That makes sense. When our first was little, we did something similar. We didn't have the third person to help but little guy would have a feeding then go down 'for the night'. I would stay up until midnight or so for his next feeding. My wife would get up earlier than me to get the first in the AM....

Re: Something you never knew you'd do so much
My oldest used to give me things to stick through the chicken fence so the chickens would peck my fingers not his. I think he was about 2 then.
Considering my kids are now school age, I'm shocked how much I have to tell them to sleep in. It's simmer break!

Re: How you keep it going
This is really good, NiceyChappe! I give my wife a hard time about house projects, telling her she doesn't need to 'keep nagging me every 6 months'. the vas isn't too big of a deal. Biggest complaint was the I went to a clinic that didn't give anything going in and doesn't prescribe narcotics. Some ...

How you keep it going
Dates and fun were so much more common pre-kids. I think it’d be wonderful if we could create an evolving list of things dads can do to keep the adult relationship taken care of while parenting. An obvious one is planning dates. This doesn’t have to be dinner out or anything fancy (though that’s nic...

Re: Time for yourself
Agreed, a couple hours really can. I like to whitewater raft and even being out on the really tame sections that I can take my kids on is wonderful for me. Where we are, the rivers have been to high so far this year due to snow pack to take the kids so that isn't happening yet. I think I need to fin...
