Infant slapping

Right off the bat, let me clarify it is the infant doing the hitting. With that out if the way, I can proceed. My daughter is now about 19 and 1/2 months old. We're getting into a highly active stage now and certainly she is becoming more willful. One aspect of this is that when she is interrupted f...

Re: Hot days

In kids opinions, it's Hard to beat the splash pad at the park, but it's hard to do that if you need to get things done at home as well. If you have a yard, then you can set them up in a shady spot with some Lego or other toys (try a canopy if you need to create shade). Gives them an option outside ...

"Beach shower"

A week or so ago, my wife says to me "I think I want to buy this portable beach shower for kids. You just hand pump it, and spray kids down to get them clean for the car." I looked at the picture and said, "couldn't we just buy a weed sprayer? It looks like the exact same thing except...

Boundless energy

My daughter is 18 mo now. She's fun, but she's exhausting. What have you tried to wear down toddlers with boundless energy?

Re: 4th of July

We did the whole barbecue thing with family and friends, but we can home early and cranked that white noise up. I had work the next morning anyway.

Re: Whitewater rafting

My wife and I did it once a few years ago, but it was pretty beginner level. It was fun, but I don't think I can afford to get into a new hobby and the kiddo is still too little. We did go into the North Cascades for a boat tour last weekend though, and she did okay. Maybe that's step one.

Re: How you keep it going

Buying a little treat is nice, but doing a little extra work is the real winner. I work as a field tech, and if I finish up a job close to home then I'll swing by home and surprise her between jobs. Bring her a scone from the bakery or spend my lunch break with my daughter to give her an unexpected ...

Something you never knew you'd do so much

This is just sort of a fun post. What's something you do a ton of that you never thought would become a thing?
There's a house on our walking route that has chickens, and it's basically a required stop now. I never expected to spend this much time feeding dandelion leaves to chickens.

Re: Time for yourself

I've been having a hard time with this lately actually. Out of touch with most older friends, and even the few I've been in touch with it's inconsistent. I used to be the one that made things happen, and I've found that if I don't make it happen it doesn't happen. It's just kind of impossible to be ...

Re: Oh hey there

I want to hit some outdoor free family-friendly shows this year. An old bandmate of mine is playing at a free festival in a couple weeks that I'll try to hit. (Reggae music July 1st at Seward park in Seattle if anyone else is interested). Also, my daughter is pretty excited by animals at this point,...

Re: Putting down to bed

That pre-bedtime routine is important. We really started hitting that early, and it has paid off. Not long after dinner is bath time (we usually do bath alternating every other day), then it's jammies, storytime, bedtime bottle/sing her a song, toothbrushing and bed. My daughter is almost 17-mo, and...

Re: Your friendly neighborhood mod

Hey, I'm Josh. I'm a fairly recent member on daddit and came here to make sure I could stay a part of the community. I'm dad to an almost 17-mo old girl who is full of energy and who is learning new words every day. My wife and I are navigating the balance between two careers, and being fairly new t...
