Boundless energy

Post by JoshStrummer »

My daughter is 18 mo now. She's fun, but she's exhausting. What have you tried to wear down toddlers with boundless energy?

That's a tough age for me because they have tons of energy but limited attention span/focus. Burning energy is as much about mental stimulation as it is physical exhaustion.

I had a dad friend who would really encourage his kid with things like 'races'. You know, "run to the fence and back and I'll time you!...Good job. This time try it faster/crawling/jumping and see how much faster you are!"

We kept a huge piece of cardboard and a rubber made container of kinetic sand so they could play with that on the kitchen floor and clean up was easier.

A 'water table' or just a bit bowl or rubber made/plastic container with a couple drops of dish soap and some cups/toys will occupy a solid hour. You only need like 1-2" of water and they're happy.
